One of Community Environmental Center’s projects is once again a possible winner of the Annual Green Building Competition, as chosen by the EPA and New York City.

Previously, The Lee (133 Pitt Street, Manhattan), a Kiss + Cathcart building, was a winner.  CEC’s energy analysis and recommendations will save almost 30% off of the energy costs for a baseline building. As described on the competition website:

This 12 story, new construction housing project will set new benchmarks for sustainable social housing in America. Materials will be chosen based on their environmental impact and materials will be salvaged from the existing building. Energy savings will be achieved through features such as a high quality thermal envelope and day lighting to a photovoltaic array, and occupancy controls. Water saving fixtures will be used throughout and a green roof will be installed using native plants.

Recently, CEC’s first LEED building at 1347 Bristow St (Bronx) won an honorable mention in this year’s awards.  The five-story buidling is on track to receive a LEED Siver rating by implementing such a wide variety of measures as a greenroof and courtyard with native vegitation, bi-level lighting, air sealing, bicycle parking, and more.  1347 Bristow is expected to save over 35% on energy above a baseline building.
